SUNA Spotlight: Annette Liechty

Annette Liechty, LPN, says she is “excited to be part of the innovative, great minds of urology.”

Currently employed at the Michigan Urology Center at the University of Michigan, Annette has been an LPN since graduating from the Northwest Ohio School of Nursing in 1985. She grew up in Tecumseh, Mich., and also attended Siena Heights University in the neighboring city of Adrian.

Annette began working in urology in 1989 on the campus of St. Joseph Mercy Health System and said that right from the start, urology was always fascinating to her.

“Female urinary incontinence became of particular interest to me,” says Annette. “The statistics indicated a large patient population, quietly accepting urinary incontinence as a ‘way of life. My focus became to share information and the many treatment options available to patients. I became a presenter on the topic for St. Joseph Mercy Health System, utilizing public forums and talk radio, to encourage women to take a (dry) stance against leakage.”

Joining SUNA has also been a vehicle for Annette to continue to advance her own career while at the same time being able to help incontinent women. And those involved with SUNA have been nothing but helpful to Annette and her ongoing studies.

“Making available every possible means of treatment prompted me to launch and implement a structured biofeedback program and participate with Bard Urologic in product development and instruction,” explains Annette. “SUNA was and continues to be my number one resource with exciting trends and trials and nurses networking with other nurses.

“The willingness of the members to share information, tips and tidbits has proven invaluable to me over the years.”
