Susan E Healy was a passionate pediatric urology nurse.  She received her Associates Degree in Nursing from Milwaukee Area Technical College.  She worked for 17 years at Specialized Urologic Consultants in Chicago Ridge.  She loved being a nurse and had especially loved helping children.  She was an active member of the Chicago Metro Chapter and a great supporter of SUNA.  She felt there was a great need for more nursing education, especially in pediatric urology.  She was always encouraging her Chapter to offer more pediatric content.  On February 19, 2010 her life was cut short by her sudden death.  Her husband John, son Patrick and daughter Colleen knew of her great devotion to SUNA and asked that memorials be sent to SUNA foundation in her name.  They would like to support future pediatric urologic learning with these funds.

 

Criteria:

1.     SUNA member

2.     Certification by CBUNA preferred

3.     A nurse who seeks to further their knowledge of patient care to pediatric urology patients.

 

Procedure:

1.     A SUNA member must submit a letter of endorsement to the Board of Directors to include:

        a.     The nominees name, title, and current position in urology. The nomination can

               come from any SUNA member including oneself.

        b.     A written description of why the nominee should be considered for the award

               including how the funds will be used to further his/ her knowledge in caring

               for pediatric urology patients.

        c.     A current CV or resume of the nominee or an employment history.

        d.     The deadline for receipt of nominations is June 1 of each year.

 

2.     The award will be determined by a vote cast by the current president, president elect and   immediate past president from the SUNA national Executive Board and a vote cast by the           two Chicago Metro SUNA board member designees.  If consensus cannot be reached by this         system, the President of SUNA will determine the recipient.  If any of these individuals are nominated for the award, they will refrain from voting.

 

3.     The SUNA Foundation will maintain a fund for this award to receive ongoing donations      from friends and family members of Susan Healy.  The award will be given annually as the         funds are available. The award will include a check and a recognition plaque and will be      awarded at the SUNA Annual Conference. The amount of the check will be determined by   the President according to available funding in this designated account.
